Creating a new laundry product involves much more than simply combining ingredients and placing them in a container. At SomerPure, we believe careful development and honest testing are essential before our laundry flakes are ready to reach customers.
Starting with a simple idea
SomerPure began with a straightforward aim: to develop a practical laundry flake here in Somerset using carefully selected ingredients and a considered, small-batch approach.
Our laundry flakes are still under development, so every trial helps us understand how the formula behaves in everyday washing conditions.
What do we test?
Our practical washing trials look at several important areas, including:
- How well the flakes dissolve during the wash
- Whether any residue remains inside the drum, around the door or on the rubber seal
- How the laundry looks and feels after washing
- Whether the suggested dose is practical and straightforward
- How consistently the formula performs from one trial batch to another
We also record details from each batch and wash test. This allows us to compare results, identify possible improvements and make informed changes to the formula.
Testing in real washing conditions
Laboratory information is important, but we also want to understand how SomerPure performs in an ordinary washing machine.
During our early trials, we have been examining the machine after each wash and checking the drum, door and seal for undissolved flakes, deposits or visible residue. We also observe the wash water and inspect the finished laundry.
These practical checks help us assess the complete washing experience—not simply whether the flakes disappear during the cycle.
Learning from every batch
Product development rarely happens in a perfectly straight line. Each trial can highlight something worth adjusting, whether that relates to the ingredients, preparation method, dose or packaging instructions.
We regard this as a valuable part of the process. Rather than rushing SomerPure to market, we are taking the time to learn from each result and document our progress carefully.
Preparing for independent feedback
As development progresses, we plan to provide clearly labelled samples to selected testers. Their feedback will help us understand how the flakes perform in different households, washing machines and laundry situations.
Tester comments will be recorded alongside our own observations, helping us decide what works well and what may still need refinement.
An honest journey from Somerset
SomerPure is being developed step by step here in Somerset. We are not presenting the product as finished before the testing is complete. Instead, we want to share an honest look at the work taking place behind the scenes.
There is still more testing and development ahead, but every completed trial brings us closer to our goal: a thoughtfully developed laundry product that is practical and straightforward to use.
